Continuing the Experiential Salons in the New Year

EHI is excited to continue the new series of experiential salons. The intention for these salons is to honor EHI’s commitment to experiential learning as well as the time honored group process of discussion and integration.

On February 20th, EHI is hosting a two-hour virtual community space for encountering The Therapeutic Relationship. Personal, relational, and cosmological aspects are considered in group discussion, practical demonstration, dyad engagement, and will be flexible to follow emergent wishes from the group.

As we acknowledge that the word “salon” implies a more free flowing structure this is a flexible outline that will be modified by Sonja and Josh to work with what is happening in the moment.

General Outline (2 hours):

Welcome Introduction, poem, check-in (15 minutes)

Conceptual frames for The Psychotherapeutic Relationship (20 minutes)

o    Sonja, and Josh share conceptual definitions and invite others to also. Therapist self as instrument for co-creating a healing relationship together in shared environment through cultivation of presence.

o    Group discussion of emerging material

Experiential exercise: Exploring The Psychotherapeutic Relationship (35 minutes)

o    We ask for a volunteer “client” for a demo. Guiding the client to the inevitable next moment which can then unfold freely.

Dyad: Deepening the experience (30 minutes)

o    What it is like to embody here and now presence of The Therapeutic Relationship? Being here, now, and present to oneself, each other, and the space between.

o    Experiment drawing out the concept through role plays.

Final Large Group Process (20 minutes)

o    Growing edges, integration, resources

o    Announcements

o    Closing remarks by all

For Reference:

There is no mandatory reading for this offering but the text book, Existential-Humanistic Therapy, 2nd Edition by Schneider and Krug published by the APA, and The Art of Counseling by Rollo May (1989), are resources we would like to mention.
